Do you have an orange shirt? Would you like to get one for someone else in your life? As the third National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaches (September 30), it's more important than ever to show our commitment to recognizing the generations-long effects of the Residential 'School' system on the Indigenous Peoples of this land.
St Mary's Oak Bay has a supply of orange shirts, produced by Victoria Orange Shirt Day with artwork by local artist Bear Horne. Shirts are available in both youth and adult sizes, and cost $25. Proceeds go directly to Victoria Orange Shirt Day to help continue to raise awareness.
They also have a supply of art cards by Jessica Joseph of Songhees Nation and Sarah Jim of W̱SÁNEĆ nation. These cards were produced to support the ecosystem restoration & Indigenous youth programs of the PEPÁḴEṈ HÁUTW̱ Foundation & Living Lab Project at UVic. Cards are $6 each, or $10 for two.
You can get your orange shirts or Living Lab art cards from the church office at St Mary's (M-Th 8:30am-noon ) 1701 Elgin Road, or the Churchmouse Bookshop (Saturdays 10am-1pm), also 1701 Elgin Road.
