Fri, Sep 22, 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Christ Church Cathedral, Quadra at Rockland, Victoria, BC
Organizer: The Royal Canadian College of Organists- Victoria Chapter
OrgelkidsCAN brings children on a voyage of discovery that comes in a box.
Children are empowered to discover how the organ is made and how it works by assembling a working pipe organ. The Orgelkit, beautifully crafted by Canada’s Orgues Létourneau, can be built in under an hour with guidance from volunteers from the local Victoria Centre of the Royal Canadian College of Organists.
The Orgelkit is carefully designed to be appealing and educational to children, challenging and encouraging them to discover and ask questions while building it hands-on. The constructed pipe organ is playable and applies many music and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skills that children are learning in school.
We will have room for 12 children to take part in the workshop and welcome children 8-12 years old. Caregivers will be welcome to quietly watch but the focus of the workshop will be on the children building, playing and learning about the Orgelkit. Any workshop participants will be able to attend the pipe organ concert with Aaron Tan starting at 7:30pm the same evening with a caregiver for free!
Participation is by registration through rcco.victoria.news@gmail.com. Please email the name and age of the participant and a contact phone number. Looking forward to seeing you there!
