Table Talk this SundayGVAT Listening Campaign 2025 - Tuesday, March 25, 2025 Greater Victoria Acting Together (GVAT) is a coalition of diverse organizations from across Greater Victoria that work together to advocate for issues of common concern. Our Diocese of Islands and Inlets is a member organization of GVAT. Together, we are building a fairer, more sustainable Victoria region. GVAT has worked on raising awareness about mental health and addictions, improving access to transit, safer cycling infrastructure, affordable and supportive housing, protecting old growth and food security in the region. GVAT is currently engaging its member organizations and beyond in a Listening Campaign, with the goal of identifying the issues we need to work on together. Following the campaign, we will develop teams to research and initiate focused action on particular issues. Discerning the most important issues in our time and place is the critical first step. What are our most heartfelt anxieties? What keeps us up at night? The format will be that of "table talks." Participants will have the opportunity to share stories about their most important concerns, with the focus not on church-issues per se, but rather our concerns about the communities and environment we live in. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as Anglicans in Greater Victoria, to be the church, alongside others in our communities. You are invited to join for about an hour at St Philip's in Oak Bay on Sunday, March 30 at 11am (following the 9.30 service). The “Listening Session” at St Philip will be hosted and facilitated by Fr. Allen. We look forward to seeing you there! Children on Palm Sundayan invitation Palm Sunday (13 April this year) is the last Sunday before Holy Week. It commemorates the procession of Jesus into Jerusalem, and his reception by the Passover crowds in the city, as related in Matthew 21 and John 2, and fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9. There is a long tradition of having children take leading roles in Palm Sunday processions and other parts of the liturgy on this day, because Matthew's Gospel tells of "children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David." (Hosanna in Hebrew means "save now" or as used in the Gospels "honour to the one who saves" and indicates that the crowds were hailing Jesus as the Messiah.) This year at St Philip we specially invite children and their caregivers to attend the 9.30 service on Palm Sunday! and for those who want to, to take active parts in the liturgy. This could include:

Issues with Shaw emails not receiving weekly newsletters
If you, a friend, or someone in your household use(s) a Shaw email address, and you haven't been receiving weekly newsletters recently, please be aware that Shaw email suddenly started rejecting all - or most - messages sent from St Philip in early February. The other Anglican parishes on the Island, and probably other organizations, are having the same problem. Everybody’s email program will have different settings, but here are some things you can do: 1. check junk/spam mail folder and keep checking it regularly, mark as "Not Junk" any legit emails that get in there 2. adjust Shaw spam filter settings 3. add sender to whitelist and Contacts list 4. forward a previous newsletter e-mail to reportnotspam@shaw.ca 5. as a last resort, resubscribe with a non-Shaw email. Others don't seem to be affected, except some Hotmail users. You may need to do these more than once before it takes effect. It seems to affect a majority but not 100% of Shaw users, and is not 100% consistent for those it does affect. Others with the same problem report that they were able to use these instructions in Shaw Webmail . - Anna Image by OpenClipart-Vectors from Pixabay |
