Small Groups (also known as Home Groups) are a vital link in our ministry at St. Philip’s.  In many ways ‘church’ happens as much – or more – in smaller, intimate gatherings as it does on a Sunday morning.

Like the early Christians who “broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,” (Acts 2:46), our community encourages people to be involved in small, supportive groups.

Small Groups come in many sizes, varieties and styles. They meet in different places every week or every other week. Some meet during the day, most meet on a week night. Some groups include children, youth or young adults – others have only adults. Each group shapes its life according to the make up of its membership.

Some groups follow a programmed study of the Bible or a theme in Christian spirituality  Other groups are less structured, sharing their lives in quite personal ways, sharing their stories, spending time in prayer or sharing a meal together.  Most groups are a blend of the above.

Some groups have a ‘theme’ or ‘demographic’ in mind – such as the “Men’s Mumblings and Muffins” Bible Study (see description below).  Many are far more general.

We hope that you will consider a Small Group as one way of deepening  your life in Christ and growing in Christian community.
